Terms of Use

EFFECTIVE DATE: 3 JULY 2026

Voila is not therapy and not a crisis service. It is a community of people listening to each other. If you are in immediate distress or thinking about harming yourself, please contact a professional or an emergency service — in the EU dial 112, in the US or Canada call or text 988, and local crisis lines exist in every country. You matter more than any app.

1. Who provides Voila, and what these terms are

Voila (the app and the website voilatalk.com) is operated by an independent developer.

By creating an account or using Voila, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Voila. How we handle your data is described separately in our Privacy Policy.

2. Who may use Voila

You must be at least 16 years old. During signup you confirm your age; providing a false age is a violation of these terms and grounds for removing the account.

3. Your account and your recovery phrase

Your account is pseudonymous: a username, a password, and a recovery phrase. We do not collect your email, phone number, or real name.
Your recovery phrase is the only way to recover your account. Because we hold no email or phone number, we have no other way to verify that an account is yours. If you lose both your password and your recovery phrase, your account cannot be recovered — by anyone, including us. Store the phrase safely and never share it.
You are responsible for what happens under your account. One person, one account, used personally and non-commercially.
Usernames that impersonate others, are offensive, or abuse reserved terms may be reclaimed or changed.

4. What Voila is

Voila lets you record short voice posts (up to 90 seconds), listen to others, and reply with your voice (up to 60 seconds). Replies attach to the original post and cannot themselves be replied to. Voice Tune effects modify how your voice sounds; they are designed to protect your privacy but cannot guarantee that your voice can never be recognised. Reasonable rate limits apply to posting to keep the community healthy.

Voila is provided free of charge in its current form. We may change, add, or remove features as the service evolves.

5. Your content

You own what you record. Your recordings remain yours.
So we can operate the service, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, process (including applying the Voice Tune and background music you selected), reproduce, and distribute your content within Voila, for as long as the content exists on the service. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account (subject to the deletion grace period).
You may delete any of your posts or replies at any time.
Only record your own voice and your own words. Do not publish content that infringes anyone else's rights — including recording other people without their consent.

6. Community rules — zero tolerance

Voila exists so people can be vulnerable safely. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour. You must not post or do any of the following:

Harassment, bullying, threats, or intimidation of any person;
Hate speech or discrimination against any group;
Sexual content of any kind; any sexualisation of minors results in immediate removal and, where required, reporting to authorities;
Encouraging self-harm or suicide, or mocking those who are struggling;
Violence, glorification of violence, or content depicting abuse;
Impersonation, doxxing, or attempts to unmask another user's identity;
Spam, advertising, or commercial solicitation;
Illegal content or use of the service for any unlawful purpose;
Interfering with the service: bots, scraping, reverse engineering, bypassing rate limits or security measures.

7. Moderation, reporting, and blocking

Content passes automated screening before or shortly after publication.
Every user can report content or users, and block any user. Blocking hides their voices from you and prevents them from replying to your posts.
Reports of objectionable content are reviewed, and content that violates these rules is removed and the user responsible is ejected — within 24 hours of a valid report.
We may remove content, restrict, suspend, or permanently remove accounts that violate these terms. For repeated or severe abuse, restrictions may apply without prior notice. Where we restrict an account, we notify the user, and an appeal can be raised through in-app support.

8. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings). Deletion starts a 30-day grace period during which you can cancel by logging back in; after 30 days, the account and its data are permanently erased.
We may terminate or suspend accounts that violate these terms, as described in section 7.

9. What we cannot promise

Voila is not a medical, psychological, or emergency service. Content on Voila comes from ordinary people and is not professional advice. Nothing you hear on Voila should replace consulting a qualified professional.
We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation, or that any content will remain available.
Anonymity: we designed Voila to protect your identity, but no system can make anonymity absolute. What you choose to say is your responsibility.

10. Liability

We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, and for injury to life, body, or health. For simple negligence, we are liable only for breach of essential contractual obligations (obligations whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the contract possible in the first place), and then only up to the foreseeable damage typical for this kind of free service. Mandatory statutory liability (including under product liability law) remains unaffected. Users are responsible for the content they publish; we are not liable for user content beyond our legal obligations as a hosting provider.

11. If you use Voila on an Apple device

These terms are between you and the operator named in section 1 — not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product liability, legal compliance, or intellectual property claims.
You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo and are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Voila evolves or as the law requires. For meaningful changes, we will announce the update in the app before it takes effect. If you continue using Voila after a change takes effect, the new terms apply. If you do not agree with a change, you can stop using Voila and delete your account at any time.

13. Governing law and final points

Nothing in these terms limits the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence.
The European Commission provides an online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. We are neither obliged nor willing to participate in dispute resolution before a consumer arbitration board.
If any provision of these terms is invalid, the rest remains in effect.
